PGL and Perfect World have officially announced a partnership that will see them collaborate on CS2 (and DOTA 2) tournaments from 2024 to 2026.
As a result, PGL will be responsible for producing all Perfect World tournaments in English and will hold the rights to distribute the tournaments except in China. Conversely, Perfect World will be responsible for producing and distributing PGL’s tournaments in China, as well as providing Chinese-language live streaming for other PGL tournaments.
As a start to the partnership, the two companies will be jointly responsible for two CS2 tournaments this year, from March 17-31, as well as a tournament organized by Perfect World from December 1-15 in Shanghai.
The partnership isn’t entirely new, as the two organizers, based in Romania and China respectively, have already had similar collaborations on CSGO and DOTA tournaments since 2017.
However, the continuation of this partnership could have a major impact on the CS2 landscape starting in 2025, when Valve’s new rules will come into effect and will end the BLAST and ESL licensed tournament structure. This should create more opportunities for other tournament organizers to host major CS2 events that include top teams.
PGL has previously announced that they will be hosting “at least eight DOTA 2 tournaments with a total prize pool of $1 million” between 2024 and 2026, but they have yet to reveal their plans for CS2 tournaments in the coming years.
