Teams and Format
PGL Major Copenhagen will be played in three phases: the Opening Phase, the Elimination Phase and the Playoff Phase.
In the opening phase there will be 16 teams playing in a Swiss format. The matches will be decided by one set until the elimination or qualification rounds, when the system will be changed to a best-of-three. The top eight teams from this stage will advance to the knockout stage, while the bottom eight will be eliminated.
The elimination phase will see the eight teams from the opening round meet the eight teams that advance directly to the elimination round. The Knockout Stage utilizes the same Swiss System tournament format as the Opening Tournament: a one-game tiebreaker in the group stage and a best-of-three in the deciding match, with the top eight teams advancing to the next stage.
The playoff stage is simple: eight teams face off in a single elimination tournament with a best-of-three series to determine the tournament champion.
Each stage of the tournament will last four days. Unlike previous major tournaments, there will be no rest days between the first and second stages, but teams advancing to the playoffs will have at least three days to prepare for the Royal Arena.
