hltv reports on this update
Valve’s attempts to stop players from using command alias to override the subtick system have resulted in a workaround.
Valve has released an update for CS2, which has been released almost every day since the game went fully live. The most controversial part of this update is the change to command alias, but it also includes some bug fixes and sound changes.
Valve has made some tweaks to command alias in this latest patch, claiming that they “now utilize subtick precision,” meaning that the developers intend to prevent players from breaking the subtick system. However, there’s already a workaround, with Mohan “launders” Govindasamy posting the solution on X.
Players have been using command alias to essentially override subtick, thus making prop jump throws and movement more consistent, similar to 64 tick CS:GO.
Command alias are important for professional play because jump heights are not consistent in CS2, as launders demonstrated, making it difficult for prop jump throws to be consistent.
The community immediately criticized the change, especially professional players. While alias designed to replicate CS:GO movement have been banned by the ESL for use in their matches, jump throw alias are still allowed. Without a workaround, this patch will disable those alias.
The update also includes some sound changes, such as lowering the decay distance of knife sounds, as well as some bug fixes.
