Astralis part ways with br0, device returns

br0 is now a free agent heading into 2025.

br0 was called upon to stand in for device on short notice ahead of Astralis’ recent failed RMR campaign

Astralis have announced that they have mutually agreed to terminate Alexander “br0” Bro’s contract, leaving the 22-year-old free to find a new team. Nicolai “device” Reedtz is also officially returning to the lineup after missing Perfect World Shanghai Major Europe RMR due to “a recurrence of stress-related health challenges.”

“After taking time to focus on his physical and mental well-being, dev1ce is now fully ready to rejoin the team,” Astralis’ statement read. “Starting in early 2025, when the team regroups after the holidays, device will be back in action.”

Of br0’s departure, Astralis’ said “we also want to acknowledge the big contribution of br0, who stepped in for Astralis during a particularly challenging period.

“Despite limited preparation, br0 rose to the occasion at the RMR and gave his all for the team. Together with br0, we have agreed on a mutual termination of his contract with Astralis. We are grateful for his professionalism and dedication during his time with us.”

br0 joined Astralis after their failed bid to qualify for PGL Major Copenhagen earlier this year, taking the place of Benjamin “blameF” Bremer on the team. The rifler’s arrival facilitated a reshuffling that put Martin “stavn” Lund and Jakob “jabbi” Nygaard into their preferred roles and saw device take up the IGL mantle.

After some initial success with the new constellation, making semi-final runs at IEM Chengdu and ESL Pro League Season 19, results began to wane after the player break, with Astralis failing to make the playoffs of either IEM Cologne or ESL Pro League Season 20.

The Danish organization opted to make a change before the impending Shanghai Major cycle, bringing Casper “cadiaN” Møller on board to free up an ailing device from the IGL position, with br0 heading to the bench to make room.

The move was immediately met with controversy, not due to the move itself, but due to Astralis’ questionable usage of BLAST’s emergency substitution rules to get cadiaN on their roster for BLAST Fall Final.

br0 was called upon by Astralis barely two months after his benching, as device withdrew from the team due to medical reasons mere days before their RMR campaign ahead of Perfect World Shanghai Major. The team were unable to deal with their AWPer’s sudden withdrawal from the squad, and failed to qualify.

“2024 was an experience, something to learn from,” br0 said in a statement regarding his free agency posted to X. “2025 has more opportunities to achieve the goals that I dream of.”
