The legendary Swede calls time on a playing career stretching across more than 10 years.
Adam “friberg” Friberg has taken to X to announce his transition to coaching for 2025. The 33-year-old encouraged interested parties to contact him via DM.
“With my history in top teams, including MVP at a Major and IGLing for OpTic and Dignitas, I know what it takes to win,” friberg’s statement read. “My focus: leadership, communication, and core fundamentals at CS’ highest level.”
With this announcement, friberg is calling time on a fruitful playing career that saw him earn a place in HLTV’s Top 20 twice, win a Major, claim a Major MVP award, and collect a plethora of LAN trophies.
Whilst the Swede’s career began in CS:Source, friberg’s first real success came in CS:GO after he joined Ninjas in Pyjamas in 2012. The entry-fragger became an integral part of Ninjas in Pyjamas’s legendary 87-0 LAN streak, and won LAN trophy after LAN trophy in the early years of CS:GO competition.
He was also a key factor in Ninjas in Pyjamas’ only Major victory at ESL One Cologne 2014, earning himself an MVP award for his performances. Beyond that Major win, friberg helped Ninjas in Pyjamas bag second-place at four more Majors from 2013-2015, and top-four at DreamHack Cluj-Napoca 2015.
friberg’s contributions to the early years of CS:GO made a lasting impact, such that he was the subject of the “Thank Mr Friberg” meme, titled the “King of Banana” for his plays on that part of Inferno, and earned an in-game tribute for his dominance of Banana on Inferno.
friberg featured for OpTic and HEROIC after his time on Ninjas in Pyjamas ended in 2017, before finishing his playing career with Dignitas in 2022. He has since featured in a number of showmatches, and appeared in Major open qualifiers with boomer demons.
friberg’s placements in the HLTV Top 20 list:
2013 – #11
2014 – #14
