FURIA have kicked off their Perfect World Shanghai Major Elimination Stage campaign by collecting a huge scalp, knocking Spirit down to the 0-1 pool after securing a 13-6 win in their Dust2 opener.

Spirit locked down their place in the Shanghai Major following a tense campaign through EU RMR B, suffering losses to Passion UA and G2 that forced them to fight Ninjas in Pyjamas for the last available Major spot. An opening matchup against FURIA seemed favorable for the Russian side on paper, but this one-sided loss raises further doubts for the team after their mixed RMR showing.

Only Danil “donk” Kryshkovets could seem to get things going in the Dust2 best-of-one for Spirit, as Marcelo “chelo” Cespedes and Felipe “skullz” Medeiros ripped the rest of his teammates apart in the first half to secure an 8-4 lead for the Brazilians.

Having missed out on the second pistol round, and with Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato and Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo adding to FURIA’s firepower, there was little more that Spirit could do as FURIA claimed a dominant 13-6 victory in their opening match.

At the same time as Spirit was struggling against FURIA, Vitality handled underdog side GamerLegion with ease in their opening match on Mirage. Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut lived up to his superstar status with a head-spinning 1.91 rating and 123.2 ADR, helping to move Vitality to the 1-0 pool with a 13-7 win.
