G2 eviscerate FaZe to reach Shanghai Major playoffs

FaZe managed to rack up just seven rounds across the two maps played in this series.

G2 have booked their spot in the playoffs of the Perfect World Shanghai Major after making quick work of FaZe in their 2-1 match.

Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski’s men recovered nicely from an opening loss against The MongolZ to kick off their Elimination Stage campaign, picking up straightforward victories over BIG, 3DMAX, and FaZe to secure the three wins necessary for a place in the top eight of the event.

Conversely, FaZe will be reeling from this loss. Finn “karrigan” Andersen and company started their Major run with a narrow win over underdog side Wildcard, before faltering to HEROIC to end the first day 1-1.

A best-of-one win over MOUZ was a step in the right direction, but this one-sided loss to G2 now put the international squad just one best-of-three away from missing out on playoffs in Shanghai.

While FaZe’s 2-2 matchup is still dependent on the outcomes of the remaining round four games, both Natus Vincere and Spirit are possible matchups that FaZe are at risk of encountering in their final match of the Elimination Stage.

This brief best-of-three kicked off on FaZe’s map pick of Inferno, where G2 immediately wrested control despite a FaZe pistol win thanks to an impressive force-buy effort. G2 mopped up much of the rest of the first half on the defense thanks to a phenomenal showing from Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, who posted a 1.95 rating with just one AWP kill to his name.

After bagging the second pistol and subsequent conversion, G2 quickly wrapped up Inferno 13-4, moving the series to their own pick of Mirage. This time around, Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač were the ones leading the way for G2 as the international side bagged yet another straightforward map win, locking down Mirage 13-3 to secure their place in playoffs.
