Liquid through to Shanghai Major playoffs

Liquid won two maps thoroughly in the three-map series.

Liquid have secured a spot in the top eight at the Perfect World Shanghai Major with a 2-1 victory over MIBR in the Elimination Stage’s 2-1 pool. Three straight wins after an opening best-of-one loss to Natus Vincere sealed it for the Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken-led squad.

MIBR, on the other hand, have been put in a precarious state after a 2-0 start in the Elimination Stage as they’re now down to their last life in the 2-2 pool.

The series kicked off on Liquid’s Mirage pick, but it was as if MIBR hadn’t showed up to the match yet. The Brazilians won the first pistol round and the first gun round, but couldn’t muster anything else in a 13-2 thrashing.

Roland “ultimate” Tomkowiak made his presence clear from the get-go, putting up an 11-1 scoreline in the first few rounds while Rafael “saffee” Costa struggled with seven deaths and no kills in the opening stages of the series.

A 4-0 start on the T side of Nuke slung MIBR right into the game, although they cooled off with just two more rounds in the half. It was, however, more than enough as Liquid ran out of steam after switching sides and the Brazilians held their own on the defense to win out 13-10.

MIBR got off to a dream start on Anubis, winning the T-side pistol round and hitting back after losing the first gun round to lead 4-1, but they then dropped off a cliff. Liquid allowed only one more attack to go through, winning the notoriously uphill CT side 7-5 before cleaning house on the attack, 13-5.

MIBR are now in a fearsome 2-2 pool alongside MOUZ, Natus Vincere, and FaZe. Only two days have passed since they were on top of the world in the 2-0 pool, but their position could not be more different as they head into the final day of group play.
