Here’s everything you need to know about the Shanghai Major.
The Perfect World Shanghai Major is set to kick off on November 30 at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center, where the Opening and Elimination stages will take place until December 8. The tournament will then move to the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center for the playoffs on December 12-15.
Participating teams and format
The Perfect World Shanghai Major will take place across three stages: the Opening Stage, the Elimination Stage, and the Playoff Stage.
The Opening Stage will feature 16 teams in a Swiss group stage. Matches are best-of-one until the elimination or qualification matches, which will be best-of-three. The top eight teams from this stage will progress to the Elimination Stage, while the bottom eight are eliminated.
The eight teams that made it through the Opening Stage will then join the eight teams that qualified straight to the Elimination Stage, which will be another Swiss group stage with the same best-of-one matches into best-of-threes for deciding games.
The top eight teams will then go through to the playoffs, a single-elimination best-of-three bracket to determine the Major champion.
